   Gather your tools and materials

   You'll need: Socket wrench (1-1/16 inch), Breaker bar. Materials required: Replacement anode rod.

   Perform the check water heater anode rod

   Inspect the sacrificial anode rod in your tank water heater and replace it if more than 50% corroded. Safety note: Turn off power and water supply first.

   Verify and clean up

   Check that the work was completed correctly and clean up your workspace. If if the rod is stuck or you cannot reach it, consider calling a professional.
